We went to Hum which is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the smallest town in the world. It has a church, restaurant, town square, two intersecting roads, cemetery and a school with a total population of 16.

Dragon Bridge in Ljubljana

This last weekend we went to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia where I took this picture of their famous Dragon Bridge. I had to tweek the contrast, but I think I got a perfect angle on the cloud. What do you think?

I started a new blog for my artsy shots at:

Ljubljana, the Capital of Slovenia

Town Center

This last weekend we went to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. Again my expectations were exceeded.

They have a bridge called the Dragon Bridge. According to legend, Ljubljana was founded by Jason and that he and his Argonauts had killed a dragon. Apparently, the locals believe that the dragons wag their tails whenever a virgin crosses the bridge. Locals have also nicknamed the bridge mother-in-law because of its fiery nature.

Moldy Sausages

Somebody must like these moldy sausages at the market. I wasn't feeling adventurous enough.

Double Parking Gone Wild

Can't get the boat out. I think I'll skip fishing today.

As you can see the left lane is totally blocked with double parked cars.

Delivery Truck?

Saw this inside a shop in Trieste. Anybody have a good caption?

Miramare Castle

We went back to Trieste, Italy to Miramare Castle which was built in the second half 19th century by the Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Hapsburg. It has incredible woodwork inside.

Leaving Trieste

Leaving Trieste, I took this pic from inside the car, but forgot to turn off the flash. Turned out better this way.

This is Kathy's office at the university. She shares the space with 4 other professors. There are 3 computers (1 is a laptop for Kathy) and one printer. They split their time in the office. Kathy has time on Monday mornings, Wednesday afternoons, and Fridays. Offices have closed doors at all times. Even the public schools and all public offices follow this custom.

We saw a couple of lamp posts on the canal in Trieste with these locks attached. I posted the picture on Facebook and got this reply from my friend Lino Iacobellis.
"I think it has something to do with a couple's undying love for each other which is locked forever and the key is then thrown into the water. Such drama that only the italians could come up with!"

Basilica-Cathedral San Giusto in Trieste. This is one of the oldest churches we have been in as it dates back to the 6th century with the Cathedral being completed in 1320.

Another castle a day, this time in Trieste

The kids got to see a real drawbridge. Notice the chain on the right to raise it.

ITALY!

Triest, Italy is only one hour 15 minutes away. We arrived at 2pm and there was nobody around. At 4 we realized that everyone goes for a siesta until 4pm. Then the town came alive.

Another Roman amphitheater. It was a small one but still gives one a sense of how much history there is here and that it's everywhere. We stumbled across this one just by walking aimlessly.

Grocery Store Scenery

Even the grocery stores have a view of the Adriatic here.

More Halloween in Rijeka

Hundreds of people go to the cemetaries with flowers and candles for All Saints Eve.

Halloween in Rijeka

It turns out that the Croatians do not celebrate Halloween like we do in America, so we had our own Halloween at home.
