We saw a couple of lamp posts on the canal in Trieste with these locks attached. I posted the picture on Facebook and got this reply from my friend Lino Iacobellis.

"I think it has something to do with a couple's undying love for each other which is locked forever and the key is then thrown into the water. Such drama that only the italians could come up with!"
